We use to check monthly for duplicate content on our site using website such as siteliner.
While doing so, I have noticed something I do not understand concerning the structure of Guru urls.
Our website has one category and two courses available. There are two Guru main menu voices. One for student area, the other for category and courses. I have understood that Joomla generates different paths and therefore I have used a few redirects 301 to avoid duplicate content.
However by using siteliner I have discovered that there are more than 120 page urls related to Guru.
1) A few of them follow the path
/component/guru/
that most of the time, despite of the different urls, is the course categories page
By modifying robots.txt file googlebot will just do not "see" each url with /component/ so even if I have no control over the /component/guru/ urls I do not think that will affect SEO ranking
2) The majority of them are just a succession of urls that start with the same url and finish with one or more /http:
Here it is an example
sitename/main-menu-alias/guruPrograms/IDnumber-aliascategory/http:
sitename/main-menu-alias/guruPrograms/IDnumber-aliascategory/http: /http:
sitename/main-menu-alias/guruPrograms/IDnumber-aliascategory/http: /http: /http:
and so on...
Another thing I do not understand is why each of this page is one of the course page, even without the id of the course and the alias of the course in the url...
In that way I cannot even use easily redirects due to the fact that the id number of the category and the alias of the category are also in the urls of each of the two courses.
I hope to be wrong but may that be a big issue for SEO ranking and duplicate/poor content issue?
Thanks in advance for your help,
Giuseppe
P.S.
One further question: it is possible to change the alias for "view"? It is not possible to customize "view" from guru custom urls control panel. That's not actually an issue, just curiosity.
